OLD DANEY MILL, DAYTON NEVADA
Join Society of the Old West
That's good stuff on the background of the Daney, Whitewall. I look forward to seeing more when you can post them. Can you post them in the discussion section as I think they'll get more attention, and the attention they deserve, there? Keep them coming! You make history fun and interesting. That old Chevy, an unsolved mystery?
THE DANEY MILL IS FROM THE DEPRESSION DAYS. THE SHAFT IS LOCATED ABOVE THE MILL. THEY HIT ONE SPOT IN THE SHAFT THEY SAY, AND TOOK MORE GOLD OUT IN ONE WEEK THAN ANY OTHER MINE IN THE AREA. THE SHAFT NOW IS COLAPSED AND FULL OF JUNK. YEARS AGO YOU WERE ABLE TO SEE A 1920'S CHEVROLET STICKING UP IN THE SHAFT BUT NOW IT IS COVERD IN DIRT. I WILL SEE IF I CAN FIND OUT WHAT ITS PRODUCTION WAS. WHEN THE WEATHER GETS BETTER I WILL TAKE AND POST SOME PICTURES OF THE SHAFT. I ALSO WILL POST SOME PICTURES OF SOME OTHER OLD HISTORIC MILLS IN THE AREA SOON.
The Old Daney Mill looks a lot like the remnants of the Doble Brothers old mine on Gold Mountain near Big Bear, California. They worked their mine and mill during the late 1800s into early 1900s. Sometime during that period Elias Baldwin bought the brothers out and it became known as the Baldwin mine. Baldwin was Gen. George Patton's maternal grandfather.
Do you have any history about the Old Daney in Dayton, Nevada? These old mines can make interesting discussion topics. Thanks for the photo Whitewall.
